SOURCE: The future of Manchester City boss Sven Goran Eriksson remains unclear with Benfica having lost interest in the Swede due to his huge wage demands. Whilst it appears certain that Eriksson will leave City this summer, if not before, what isn’t clear is exactly where the former England manager will end up next. Portuguese side Benfica, had reportedly been interested in offering Eriksson a job, as they look to replace former manager Jose Antonio Camacho who left the club in March. Eriksson, who has had two previous spells at Benfica, in 1982-1984 and 1989-1992, winning the league three times was also reportedly interested in a return to Portugal. Not only does Eriksson have happy memories of his time at Benfica, he speaks the language fluently and also still owns property in Portugal. However Benfica have apparently pulled out of any discussions with the current City boss as his wage demands are thought to be unrealistic. It is reported that Eriksson currently earns something in the region of £50,000 a week, whereas former manager Camacho earned less than half of that, £20,000 whilst at the club. Benfica are thought to now be turning their attentions to Manchester United assistant manager Carlos Queiroz in their quest to replace Camacho. The news is likely to disappoint Eriksson but it is thought that a number of clubs are still vying for his services. The Swede himself, meanwhile, is believed to be keeping an eye on the situation at Chelsea, where Avram Grant’s position is less than secure despite taking Chelsea to their first Champions League final.
