SOURCE: Manchester United are preparing a summer swoop for Porto right-back Jose Bosingwa, according to reports. The Sun claim that Sir Alex Ferguson has lodged a ?15.8 million bid for the Portugal international, who has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford. However, it is understood that Porto have rebuffed United’s offer and are demanding a princely ?22 million for the Zaire-born defender. But reports indicate that the Red Devils have agreed terms with the player and his agent, settling on a ?55k-per-week deal. The 25-year-old has risen to prominence since Paulo Ferreira’s departure for Chelsea in 2004, and has recently overtaken Luis Miguel as Portugal’s favoured right-back. Filling the right-back slot is a priority at Old Trafford, given Gary Neville’s age and injury problems, and Bosingwa could be the ideal solution due to the similarity between his playing style and that of United left-back Patrice Evra. United have also been linked with a move for Sevilla wingback Dani Alves, although the Rojiblancos seem intent on pricing the Brazilian out of the market.
