Newcastle And City Tracking Alves

Premier League clubs Newcastle United and Manchester City are reportedly on the trail of Porto defender Bruno Alves.

According to media reoports, Bruno Alves is a potential target for Newcastl and Mabchester City - although the 26-year-old centre-half, apparently rated at cool £23 million, is tied to Portuguese Liga champions Porto until 2012, which could be an obstacle....

The player's agent and father, Washington Alves, is quoted as saying: "Porto is not interested in a sale right now, but anything is possible after Euro 2008.

"Bruno is playing very well. A number of European clubs have asked about his contract situation."

Alves, a Portugal international, hmself added: "I am flattered by the reports but I have signed a deal with Porto, which complicates an exit.

"The club would only study an offer for me if the fee was of grand proportions."
