Makukula Set To Miss Euro 2008

Portuguese daily Record understands Benfica striker Ariza Makukula will not feature in Luiz Felipe Scolari's call-up list for Euro 2008...

The Portuguese footballer scored in his debut for the national squad in October, against Kazakhstan, in what seemed to be an auspicious start to his international career.

He would make three further appearances for Portugal, against Armenia, Finland and Italy, and it looked as if the 27-year-old had guaranteed a place in Scolari's plans for Euro 2008.

However, the Congolese-born striker has found first-team chances at Benfica very much limited since he moved to Lisbon in January. This is something he has expressed disappointment in, despite claiming that there have not been any conflicts between himself and interim boss Fernando Chalana.

And Scolari, who often uses just one striker in his formation, will reportedly call up Nuno Gomes, Hugo Almeida and Hélder Postiga for the tournament in Austria and Switzerland.
