Hertha Berlin Sign Kaká

No this isn’t an April Fool’s trick, Hertha Berlin have signed Brazilian Kaká, not the Milan attacker, but the centre back from Portuguese outfit Academica de Coimbra.

The centre back has signed for the capital club on a four year contract although the transfer fee involved has yet to be revealed. He joins Rostock’s Marc Stein as the second new signing ahead of next season.

“We are delighted that we have got a tremendous man for our defence” explained Hertha manager Dieter Hoeneß. “I am convinced that he will strengthen our defence.”

The Brazilian defender is also looking forward to the challenge of the Bundesliga. “I’m glad that Hertha have offered me a contract. The Bundesliga is one of the strongest leagues in Europe and I am excited about the challenge” he said.

The transfer fee has yet to be revealed for the defender, who had a contract with Academica de Coimbra until 2009, although it is thought to be in the region of €2 million.

Hertha reportedly have around €9 million to spend on reinforcements this summer. The already have an agreement with Tunisian Mohamed Chermiti from Etoile Sportive du Sahel, and further targets include Etto from Dinamo Zagreb, and Maximilian Nicu from second division Wehen Wiesbaden.
