Rui Costa Blames Players For Camacho Exit

The Portuguese veteran commented on Camacho's decision to resign from his post at Benfica after a home draw with bottom-placed União de Leiria.

To the former AC Milan player, Camacho took this decision because "the results were not the ones he wanted."

"We are sorry for him, but we respect his decision," he added. "According to him, he could not do much more for Benfica."

"If it is like he says, then the players have to take the blame too. When the manager assumes that he can't make the team play better, then the players need to feel responsible."

Although Costa has been strongly linked with a place in the Benfica board when the current season reaches the end, he stressed that he will not interfere in the appointment of the new manager.

"Until the end of the season I am just a player and I will not take on other responsibilities," he concluded.
