Queiroz Denies Benfica Move

Carlos Queiroz has denied recent reports suggesting his interest in coaching Benfica for the 2008/09 season...

The Manchester United assistant manager has been widely tipped to take the managerial post at the Estádio da Luz ever since José Antonio Camacho resigned as coach earlier this month.

But the Portuguese tactician has denied such claims, revealing that he has not held talks with anyone from Benfica about a move to the Lisbon club.

"This is something I do not want to talk about, because I do not want to contribute to speculations concerning Benfica, a great club and institution," he said.

"Every statement released by the Portuguese press in direct speech is false," he continued. "I have never commented on Benfica's current situation to anyone.

"But it is always an honour and a privilege to know that a great institution like Benfica may ponder on my name to serve their needs."

The former South Africa coach returned to Old Trafford in 2004 following an unsuccessful spell at Real Madrid and seems to be the favourite to succeed Alex Ferguson when the Scottish coach decides to retire.
