Camacho Stunned As Benfica Drop Points

Benfica and União de Leiria shared the points in round 22 of the BWIN Liga, with José Antonio Camacho showing unhappiness concerning his side's form.

The Benfica coach had told his players to be focused on this game after their shocking 1-2 defeat to Getafe in the UEFA Cup earlier this week.

Benfica, however, failed to produce any significant chances during the first half, and it seemed that the teams would end the first 45 minutes with a goalless score until Paulo César scored for the visitors just three minutes before half time.

As Águias came into the second half high on confidence, willing to turn the score around, and Marc Zoro leveled the match within minutes of the restart.

Only four minutes later, Cardozo turned a free kick opportunity into a powerful, goalbound shot to put Benfica ahead.

Benfica seemed to be the stronger side, but right after this goal they became sedate, and Leiria started creating more and more opportunities. Indeed, Serge NGal rescued a draw in the 70th minute after a mistake by Benfica goal keeper Quim.

Benfica have already lost fifteen points in home games this season and this result will put them fourteen points behind top-placed Porto, should the Dragons manage to beat Académica this Sunday.

Camacho said afterwards, "We entered the second half really well, we scored twice, but then team stopped playing, I do not know why.

"It is not normal to lose so many points in home games, but I do not see any solution for this problem."

Benfica's next game will put them against Getafe at Coliseum Alfonso Pérez, with the Portuguese team having to bounce back from a 2-1 deficit if they want to progress to the quarter-finals.
