SOURCE: Sports daily Record claims that Benfica are not interested in giving defender Léo a contract extension. The Brazilian player's current contract expires in the summer, with the 32-year-old being thought to have several offers from clubs on the table. Léo has been an important figure in the Eagles' defence since joining from Santos in 2005, but Benfica seem uninterested in rewarding him with an extension, despite having pledged his wish to stay at Estádio da Luz on multiple occasions. The club's future sporting director, Rui Costa, has said that he would like Léo to stay at Benfica, but with the Lisbon-based club having signed Jorge Ribeiro on a free transfer and being reportedly on the market for a new left-back, Léo has little chances of being part of the team's plans for the new campaign. He is reported to have offers from Brazilian and European clubs, and will begin studying them at the end of the season if Benfica fail to make a last-minute offer.
